018 Visibility

018 Visibility

Sometimes, when conditions are just right, a mist will appear on a lake or around a mountain. it seems a bit magical. However the water vapor was already in place before making itself visible. It makes one wonder how many other things that are not visible are actually surrounding us. Let’s take a journey into the invisible world that our modern science has taught us that is actually there.

We breathe air. Air is not just a single item, it is composed of several major gases that provide life as we know it. Can you imagine if oxygen was 80% of the air and nitrogen was 20%? (Really the ratios are the other way around.) If we were capable of breathing this super rich oxygen and a spark occurred anywhere on the planet, then goodby: instant, quick, omnipresent fire, unstoppable, end of story. Fortunately our atmosphere is ‘fire dampened’ by the presence of the 80% inert nitrogen.

What about the ‘not so liked’ creatures we call ‘germs’? Really hard to see, easily overlooked and misunderstood for centuries, yet I haven’t really seen one with my ordinary vision. Super invisible, profound effects on all living beings.

Magnetism is such a unique, invisible force. I don’t see it, feel it, breathe it, yet the magnetized needle on a compass aligns itself with this invisible force. Electricity moving through a wire creates an invisible force field. Take a coil of wire, wind it into what engineers call an armature, place it into a field of magnetism, look up some electricity and you watch the spinning of the motors that do many things for you: use your hair dryer, vacuum your floor, move your electric car, pump air into your tires, endless items.

These are physical items that show up because the underlying principles have been understood and applied. Let’s take a look at the term we call light. Well, yes we can say we see it. However we are tricked into thinking that what we see represents the complete subject. The energy from the sun comes to us in various measurable identities called wavelengths. Our eyes can only ‘see’ an extremely small portion of this energy. We do sense ‘heat or hot objects’, but not by our eyes. These infrared wavelengths (heat) are just slightly slower than the light that our eyes can sense. Ultra violet, the source of hurtful burns on our skin, come from a slightly more energetic wavelength just slightly faster than the ‘violet’ our eyes can see.  Imagine that the spread of energy can go from extremely long wavelengths to incredibly small ones. If you use our eyes a measuring tool, conceive that tool being about as thick as a blade of grass, hidden along the sideline of a soccer pitch. Extremely tiny, yet we call it light. Perhaps we should be more conscious that there is a lot more energy categories and spread of energy than just visible light. Microwaves, television, WiFi signals, radio, telemetry, nano particles to cosmic wonders.

There is a pattern here: we see something, sense something, take a peek under the hood of something by our senses or intellect and discover. This discovery usually opens another layer of wonder. Usually it starts in the physical and soon enters the invisible or theoretical.

So what happens if we explore human emotions, ones that we can’t see in a sense, yet are evident across the species. Look at anger’s visibility: tense muscles, higher blood pressure, pupil dilation, quickness of breathing, a narrow focus on a particular subject, incident, or person.

This is the easy part, the identification or physical manifestation of anger. The cause(s)? Wow, now we have the lifelong challenge of experiencing, managing, and realizing the contradiction to our inner core design. Anger comes down to the simple fact that we believe that something is not the way it should be or that someone is not acting in the manner that we believe they should be.

Yes, the word ‘believe’ came into existence in the last paragraph. Invisible, powerful, deceptive, intriguing, dividing, defining, limiting in scope - in one sense of the word. Effortless, light, no boundaries, let out of the box, embracing life and death as one - in another sense of the same word.

==================

Do you thing that human emotions can be ‘understood’? And thus managed in more productive and user friendly manners?

Is it probable that the following ‘states of being’ are part of our core design?
Do these attributes emanate from our lives?

Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Gentleness, Kindness, Tolerance, Goodness, Self Control

Worth Considering?
